A LANDSLIDE has occurred at a Cheshire village where a severe flood warning has been issued.

These images showing the landslide are from the village of Barton, near Clutton, following the persistent heavy rain which fell all throughout Wednesday, January 20, as Storm Christoph caused widespread flooding.

In nearby Farndon, many residents have today (Thursday) walked to the bridge over the River Dee to see the rising water levels.

John Whittingham, 85, told the Press Association: “I’ve lived in this village all my life and I’ve never seen it this bad.

“I think the last time I saw the water over the road like this must have been 60 years ago.”

Gillian Sulley, 54, who had walked to the river from the neighbouring village of Holt with husband Chris and dog Lottie, said: “We’ve had a lot of rain and then quite heavy snowfall at about 9pm yesterday, which we weren’t expecting.

“The snow has all melted now and that flows into the Dee higher up.”
