SUNDAY is traditionally a day of rest but for some intrepid Whitchurch residents, Sundays are a day to improve the town.
For the last 10 weeks, volunteers have been working every Sunday morning on a number of different tasks, all designed to improve the look of the town, including clearing paths and litter-picking.
The group is lead by Paul Millington, who says over the weeks the number of volunteers has grown.
"We started doing the feeder pathways to the Jubilee Park, in following weeks we widened part of the Sandstone trail from the canal, and the pathway up Milebank to the cemetery,"said Paul.
"Our volunteer numbers have grown and accordingly we have diversified our efforts, taking on the mammoth task of tidying the area behind the White Lion toilet block, litter-picking, footpath clearing, cutting down bushes obstructing public access, relaying walking paths, widening public footpaths.
"Last weekend we had 25 volunteers in four teams, all complying to Covid rules for voluntary groups, but being positive at a very negative time.
"We want to make a difference, improving our town by tidying it, but more importantly we want to promote civic pride, and encourage others to join us, or support our efforts in their own way."
