WHITCHURCH Rotary Club continued their tradition of serving Christmas dinners to the town's elderly last year, despite the impact of Covid-19.

Every year the club cook and deliver Christmas dinners for many elderly residents but coronavirus restrictions meant that this was no longer a viable option.

But not wanting to cancel their Christmas tradition, the rotary club purchased pre-made meals and organised a strict deliver regime for Christmas day.

Club president, Ian Fawcett, explained the operation.

"Circumstances this year stopped us being able to cook, serve and deliver Christmas dinner to elderly people alone at home," he said.

"The club was still determined to provide as close to a normal Christmas meal as possible, 130 frozen two course meals were ordered from a company in Wrexham they were delivered to the rugby club on the dot of 8.30am on December 23, the latest date possible.

"Meals were then organized into delivery routes by seven volunteers and from 9am the 20 drivers started to arrive at agreed intervals.

"By 9.45am all drivers had made their collections, their deliveries completed soon after.

"Social distancing was observed throughout with a one way system in place.

"The Rotary club of Whitchurch would like to place on record our heartfelt thanks to all those who contributed in anyway to our activities this year. Difficult times call for radical solutions.

"Here's hoping you all had a peaceful Christmas and that we all can look forward to a better 2021."
