A PEDESTRIAN has died after suffering 'serious injuries' in a road traffic collision in Whitchurch on Tuesday.

The man was loading items onto the back of a lorry when the crash happened. Police said it involved a white Ford Transit and Mercedes lorry.

Police have also confirmed that he died at the scene.

The incident happened at around 7.50am on the B5935 at Sedgeford, with police saying the road would be closed for 'some time'. The road reopened at 12.40pm.

In a statement, West Mercia Police said: "A pedestrian, who was loading items into the back of the  lorry, died at the scene. Our thoughts are with his loved ones, who will be supported by a specially trained Family Liaison Officer.

"The ambulance service attended but sadly the man, died at the scene and our thoughts are with his loved ones at this difficult time.

"The road reopened at around 12.40pm."

A spokesman for the ambulance service said that 'nothing could be done' to save the man's life.

"We were called to reports of a man who had been seriously injured in a collision between a lorry and a van at the junction of Sedgeford and Queensway in Whitchurch at 7.41am," they said.

"One ambulance and a paramedic officer attended the scene.

"The man, who was not from either of the vehicles, was found to be in a very serious condition.

"Unfortunately, it became apparent that nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene."
