THE creators of a 12-foot angel in Ellesmere say they are 'delighted' with the response the creation has received online.

Fizzgigs Community Arts Group has created the angel, which currently resides within the grounds of St Mary's church, as an alternative the yearly lantern parade.

Ian Andrews, member of the Fizzgigs, said the church gave the group 'free rein' to create whatever they liked.

"We were invited by St Mary's church," said Ian. "We normally run a winter festival in November but for obvious reasons this year we couldn't.

"For quite a few years we ran a lantern parade and it's become a regular event in the town.

"Obviously this year pretty much everything's been cancelled, but St Mary's church approached to give us free rein to building an angel however we want, on the spire, in the grounds, whatever we wanted.

"So we set to it.

"The reception has been incredibly popular. I think we can call it a resounding success.

"The sculpture will stay up until Christmas is the idea.

"Hopefully next year the winter festival will be back on.

"We're not sure what we're going to do next year but normally there will be big sculptural build. As soon as we know we will set to work."
