A WHITCHURCH couple have celebrated a remarkable milestone by reaching 60 years of marriage.

John and Marie Sutton, of Greenfields Way, have recently been celebrating their diamond wedding anniversary and they were ecstatic to receive a card from Her Majesty The Queen.

The Suttons made their home in Whitchurch where they have happily lived for 60 years after meeting in 1956.

The couple first met while walking with friends in separate groups to the cinema along Park Avenue and Marie had mentioned to one friend how she liked John, her friend shouted over to him telling him.

This encounter lead them to agreeing to go out for their first date.

Shortly after they began courting, as it was called back then, and the rest is history, having spent more than 60 very happy years together.

They have two sons, Shaun and Timothy, with two daughter-in-laws Shelley and Vicky, four granddaughters, two grandsons and three great-granddaughters.

The couple would also like to say a huge thank you for all the kind messages received by friends and family and have been absolutely overwhelmed by the response online.
