SHOCKLACH Oviatt School has made sure pupils have something to look forward to on their birthdays in spite of potential lockdown disappointment.

The idea has been adopted by various schools around the country to ensure children do not miss out on birthday parties.

In November Shocklach pupils Florence Ford and Grace McKerchar both celebrated their eighth birthdays, with the school putting on the typical birthday party fun.

Mel Gilbert from the school said the pupils enjoyed the celebrations.

"We are trying so hard to help children live their life to the full at the minute as times are pretty tough for them," she said.

"We felt sad that children aren’t able to have birthday parties at home so during the Tier 2 restrictions, the Welsh firebreak lockdown and the English lockdown Shocklach school are giving children a birthday party in school.

"Our first party was on Monday in Squirrels bubble, the children in the class came to school in party clothes, all very excited.

"I had decorated the class room and we spent the last hour of the day dancing and playing party games."
