WHITCHURCH Alport are still waiting for their first win and their 2020/21 season struggles were made harder by a heavy defeat at Rylands on Tuesday night.

Alport went into last night’s clash with a strong Rylands side still searching for their first league victory after a weekend defeat.

The scores were level after the first half hour, but the hosts soon raced into a 3-0 lead in Warrington before Matty Owen clawed one back a minute before the break.

However, two own goals in four second-half finishes for Rylands compounded Alport's miserable night as they lost 7-1.

On Saturday, two Bradley Lynch strikes in the second half were enough to hand Northwich Victoria all three points in a highly-entertaining clash at a rain soaked Yockings Park.

The result might have been different had the Reds been able to capitalise on a first half performance that should have seen them into an interval lead.

Michael Hale in the visitors’ goal twice denied Alex Hughes from free kicks with the second one pushed onto his left-hand post just as Hughes was about to wheel away in celebration.

Ten minutes into the second 45 and the away side grabbed the all-important first goal when Lynch confidently guided the ball past Lewis Dutton who was making his debut between the posts for Whitchurch. The Greens smelled blood and midway through the half Lynch curled in an absolute beauty high beyond a helpless Dutton to end the scoring on a frustrating afternoon at the KMJ in front of 272 spectators.

Dutton’s capture from National League North side Chorley on a season-long loan deal represents astute business from Alport.

The 19-year-old goalkeeper captained the Welsh under-18 Academy side and worked with Steve Benyon and Paul Mellings while at TNS.

The Wrexham-based stopper is highly rated and is sure to add considerable value to a defence that will be missing one of its most experienced players for the rest of the season.

Luke Goddard’s worst fears over skipper Darren Campion were also comfirmed as the 32-year-old will need surgery on his damaged anterior cruciate ligament, and he faces a long recovery.
