A CHESHIRE schoolboy is hoping to raise money for the Royal British Legion after studying the First World War in class.
Joe Hughes, who attends Tilston Parochial Primary School, in Church Road, Tilston, was inspired by his study of the First World War to paint decorative poppies using pebbles.
Joe's mum Zoe says the fundraising has been inspired by his work and that each time he is sponsored or a donation is made, he paints a poppy design on the pebble, which will he get to display in Malpas.
"He was inspired by his topic work based on the First World War at Tilston, so he wanted to raise money for the Royal British Legion’s poppy appeal this year," she said.
"He has been getting sponsors from friends and family via his Just Giving page and every time someone sponsors him, he paints a decorative poppy pebble.
"Joe has been given permission to display the pebbles on the Cross in Malpas to show his respect for Remembrance Day.
"So far he has raised £270 and painted 37 pebbles."
