Available to watch on Prime Video, True History of the Kelly Gang is a fast paced drama based on the Peter Carey’s novel. It tells the story of Australian outlaw Ned Kelly and the Kelly gang as they flee from the law and rebel against authority.

Although this film is based on a true story one negative aspect is the lack of a driving storyline. For the first half of the film, there doesn’t seem to be much of a goal for the characters.

However, the story picks up later on. And even without a solid storyline this film manages to keep you intrigued throughout. It feels chaotic and fast-paced and it represents the true nature of the Kelly Gang and their chaotic activities perfectly.

Throughout this movie there are multiple unique shots with the cinematography and lighting being extremely creative. The score is also wonderful and reflects the mood of the film well.

The acting from George Mackay is superb. He captures the lawless personality of Ned Kelly and delivers gripping, believable scenes. The acting from Nicholas Hoult and Essie Davis is also phenomenal, and their characters are fully developed and interesting to watch.

Although not very accurate, this film is a fun tribute to their history. It is engaging with spectacular acting and cinematography.
