ELLESMERE will hold a much-reduced Remembrance Day ceremony this year in line with social distancing and Covid-19 restrictions.

In previous years, a parade has been held through the town to remember those who have lost their lives in the conflicts around the world.

But this year there will be no service in the town's parish church, with Mayor of Ellesmere, Councillor Paul Goulbourne suggesting the event will be a 'low-key' event.

Earlier in the year the town marked the ending of the Second World War in the pacific with a simple ceremony outside the parish church.

At Ellesmere's full council meeting, held virtually on Monday, October 5, he said: "It will be a low key event this year, with no service.

"It will be like VJ day."
