A WEM-based charity will be helping our feathered friends find a new home this October.

Red Hen Rehoming is a registered charity dedicated to finding pet homes for commercial hens who would otherwise face slaughter.

Run by Linda Fulwell, the charity will hold a rehoming session on Saturday, October 17 at a number of sites; including Wem, Alsager, Clunbury, Nantwich/Hankelow and Telford.

Linda says her charity is looking to find the hens a new home, but has warned of the 'addictive' nature of owing the birds.

"These hard working caged girls will be looking for their forever home to live out their lives," she said.

"We are always happy to hear from those who haven't kept hens before but would like to join the wonderful world of doing nothing but watching them scratching about all day.

"Our collection point hosts are very helpful, so do ask for guidance when you collect your girls.

"We recommend at least three to start but they are addictive, that's all we're going to say."

Those wanting to rehome a hen must email shropshire@rhruk.org.uk but book a reservation.

"Tell us how many girls you would like and which collection point you want to use," added Linda.

"Please give your telephone number at this time, as we may want to contact you.

"We ask a minimum donation of £2.50 for each of our girls, to help with our costs."
