A HISTORIC train will make a visit to Whitchurch next month as part of a Liverpool to Cardiff tour.

On Saturday, September 5, the Welsh Marches Express will leave Liverpool for a whistle-stop tour of the borders between England and Wales.

The journey, which is already sold out, is run by Saphos Trains who have a number of vintage locomotives at their disposal including the LMS Royal Scot Class, the West Country Class, the Britannia Pacific Class and the LNER A4 class – a sister train to the famous Mallard.

Setting off from Liverpool at 7.30am, the train will pick up passengers from Whitchurch at around 9.10am, before continuing on to Shrewsbury and then Cardiff.

Trainspotters will have plenty of opportunity to see the classic locomotive, with Wem also being visited on the train's journey at around 9.15am, albeit without stopping.

The train will return later in the evening, coming back to Whitchurch at around 9.30pm, giving rail fans a second chance to view the passenger locomotive.
