WEM marked the ending of the Second World War in Japan this month with a moving ceremony.
On Saturday, August 15, 1945 the Second World War officially ended in Japan, with the surrender of the Imperial Japanese Army.
This year is the 75th anniversary of the end of the war, and several gathered in Wem for a ceremony.
Numbers were restricted because of Covid-19, with social distancing being maintained but several key figures were present, including the Wem Branch of the Royal British Legion.
Members of the organisation present included president Ted Davies, chairman Phil Moyse MBE, secretary Christine Saxton, as well as Deirdre Moyse, Ann Whitfield, Barbara Evans, Dave Granger and Ruth Cumberford.
Mayor of Wem Councillor Phil Glover attended as did fellow cllrs Chris Mellings, Pauline Dee and Connie Granger.
The Kohima was read by Cllr Mellings alongside his grandfather, a Burma and Burma Star Veteran.
Deirdre Moyse, whose father was a Japanese prisoner of war, was invited to lay the wreath which was an honour for her.
