Wem Cricket Club are still without a win in the shortened 2020 season after losing to Birmingham & District Premier Cricket League GWT Group One leaders Bridgnorth.

Batting first, Wem were restricted to 175-9 from their 40 overs having been put into bat by their hosts.

Opener Chris Peel Jr was the standout showing as he fell four runs short of his half century, scoring 46 off 44 balls.

The middle order chipped in with scores of 29 and 23 from Matthew Cohen and Martyn Davies, respectively, while last man standing James Astley scored 15 off 14.

However, it was not enough as Bridgnorth eased past Wem’s target with the loss of just four wickets in the 37th over.

The second XI picked up a seven wicket win over Wheaton Aston at home.

Whitchurch lost a tight clash to Shrewsbury’s second XI, who posted a win by four runs.

The hosts batted first, finishing 202-6 from their 40 overs but in reply, Whitchurch could only reach 198-7 from their allocated overs.

Maisam Hasnain Jaffri’s 94 at the top of the innings dragged Whitchurch along with contributions from fellow opener Mubeen Rashid (24) and Elliot Bowen (23), but they fell agonisingly short.

The second XI beat Iscoyd & Fenns Bank by 74 runs in a derby at Heath Road.
