IT WAS a good evening for Malpas & Oswestry chess club in the Five Counties Online Chess League on Tuesday after beating London Knights.
The 'home' side won 4-2 against London Knights, inflicting the first loss on the former league leaders.
First to finish was captain Charles Higgie, who had a steady draw with black against Kian Shah on board three.
Leon Cox then won on board six with white against Siena Gurjar, but this was soon cancelled out by a loss on five by Peter Fisher with black against Alisha Vyas.
Mehmet Altinsoy then drew with white on two with Shlok Verma to make it 2-2.
Tim McMahon made it 3-2 with a win on board four with white against Roshan Gurjar, and finally Brian Whyte sealed the win by winning with black on board one against Aditya Verma.
Malpas & Oswestry are now fourth out of the eight teams in the league, with a relatively easy last two games to play.
