THE chairman of Whitchurch Cricket Club has thanked the efforts of club members in helping bring the club up to speed ahead of a return to cricket.

On Saturday, July 11 the club held an intra-club game, between mixed first and second teams lead by Simon Dimelow and Dave Weaver respectively.

The game was open to spectators, with social distancing measures in place to ensure the safety of everyone in attendance.

Around 130 people attended the game, with chairman Iain Marsh crediting the efforts to get the grounds ready for proper competition once again before the game.

In an online statement, he said: “I would like to stay a special thank you to all our management committee members for all the hard work they have put in during the last six months to keep the club moving forward.

“The last few weeks have been hard as things have moved forward very quickly with cricket returning today.

“Well done, let’s hope today is about the best of Whitchurch Cricket Club.”

Whitchurch Cricket Club will be back in action this weekend, with the first team playing another pre-season game away to Worfield on Saturday, July 18 for a 12noon start.

Meanwhile, the second and third teams will be playing an intra-team home friendly.
