THE Whitchurch Branch of The League of Friends to the Gobowen Orthopaedic Hospital committee has bravely faced the challenges of going online to plan their next fundraiser.

This time of year usually sees the group organising coffee mornings, plant stalls and raffles in aid of equipment, amenities and research to help patients at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt (RJAH) Orthopaedic Hospital.

But this year those plans have been unable to take place in person, so the Whitchurch branch of the League of Friends (LoF) have been the first of their counterparts to set up a Zoom committee meeting to share stories of lockdown and plan their year of events.

RJAH charity director, Victoria Sugden, also joined the Zoom meeting to report on new approaches to fundraising including the forthcoming Virtual Shropshire County Show.

Chairman of the Whitchurch LoF to RJAH, Sarah Watson-Jones, said the group would be planning events in the future as soon as possible,

"We really appreciate the support we always receive and will be resuming our fundraising events as soon as we can," said Sarah.

"In the meantime, committee members are exchanging cakes, jams and plants for donations to branch funds and welcoming all contributions from supporters for RJAH Orthopaedic Hospital.

"The well-known League of Friends Whitchurch branch have appreciated a long history of generous donations of prizes from local businesses and individuals in the area.

"This year the committee are appealing to them for funds to support their local orthopaedic hospital by donation."
