THE Lord Mayor of Chester has helped launch a scheme for people to remember a loved one during the summer by ‘Dedicating a Daisy’ to be displayed in the grounds of Chester Cathedral during September.

All money raised from the event will be donated to the organisers the Hospice of the Good Shepherd, which will go to support patient care at the Chester based hospice.

Cllr Mark Williams said: “Last year my wife Denise and I dedicated Forget Me Nots to remember our parents. This year the Dedicate a Daisy appeal is a wonderful opportunity for the Chester community to remember a loved and to honour their memory.

“Last year’s display of flowers in the grounds of Chester Cathedral was very moving. It is so heart-warming to see the Hospice of the Good Shepherd and Chester Cathedral, who are both at the heart of our special city working together. I feel that this year, whilst we are in the midst of this pandemic, the opportunity for each of us to remember someone special is even more important than ever.”

You can dedicate your daisy to anyone, they do not have to have received direct care from the hospice to “Dedicate a Daisy” for someone special in your life.

A beautiful handcrafted and unique iron daisy has been produced by the talented team at British Ironworks for you to dedicate in memory of someone special or to show support to the hospice during these challenging times.

For a donation of £30 you will receive the metal daisy which will be displayed in the grounds of Chester Cathedral during September.

When the display has ended, you will be able to keep the daisy as a colourful keepsake. You will also receive a dedication card through the post with the name of your loved on handwritten inside.

David Harrington Wright was the first person to register for his daisy in memory of his wife Fiona who died earlier in the year.

David said: “I was so pleased when I saw the Dedicate a Daisy campaign. It’s such a wonderful way for me to remember Fiona. When the display at the cathedral is finished, I will be so proud to place the daisy in my garden and every time I look at it I will smile and think of her.”

The hospice has an annual running cost of £4 million where less than 25% comes from government funding. The remaining income is generated through fundraising, donations, events and corporate partnerships.
