ONE OF Whitchurch's independent coffee shops has revealed they will not be reopening their doors post Covid-19.

Caru Coffi at 53, in Green End, was opened in late 2017 by Rebekah Cummings, and in January featured in a Herald special report highlighting businesses that cater to people with intolerances and allergies.

The coffee shop closed its doors in March in line with government measures as the effects of Covid-19 began to take hold, but with the continuing pandemic and the birth of her child, Rebekah has made the decision to not reopen the shop.

"When we first opened Caru Coffi at 53 back in October 2017, we didn't know how much of an amazing impact we'd have on the coffee culture in town," said Rebekah.

"We have enjoyed sharing our coffee journey and loved every minute of it.

"We've made amazing friends over the time with our lovely customers and staff and can't thank them all enough for their support and the community and close network with our neighbouring businesses."

Despite closing the brick-and-mortar premises, Rebekah says she will continue with her mobile coffee van once she is able to again,

"The arrival of our baby boy Idris has been a challenging one, giving birth in a pandemic and lockdown has been very tough and with the recovery after an emergency c-section is a journey in itself.

"It has become evident I can no longer burn my candle at both ends, however once fully recovered and we have some sort of balance with parenthood as time passes we look forward to a future to continue the mobile coffee van with events, festivals and weddings when the time is right.

"A big thank you to each and everyone of you that have watched us grow and enjoyed our coffees and service."
