TENNIS has returned to the courts of Whitchurch, with one club welcoming back members.

The Hollies Tennis Club, based in Tarporley Road, has now opened all three courts in line with the easing of Covid-19 restrictions.

All three courts are available for use, but the clubhouse remains closed to the public although the club committee are looking at ways to reaopen the building as soon as is safe to do so.

A spokesman for the club explained the systems in place.

"Strict guide lines are in place to keep members safe in these difficult times," said the spokesman. "All courts are now available through an online booking system.

"Unfortunately the club house remains closed as the safest place is outdoors at the moment.

"The committee is currently looking into putting systems in to place to re-open the building as soon as it is safe to do so."

As well as reopening, the club has also launched a tournament to encourage people to play the game.

"There is a coaching schedule for adult and junior members run by Inspire2coach," the spokesman added.

"As there is no competitive tennis happening in the county this season and it is not possible to run a normal club championships, the club has put together a ladies and men’s singles tournament.

"Tennis is a great sport to play with the whole family. It makes a change from walking, gets the cardio vascular system working after all this time in lockdown and it is a good way to de-stress."
