SHROPSHIRE Council has revealed the traffic measures being used to tackle Covid-19 being introduced in Whitchurch and Wem.

As shops begin to reopen, the council wish to make social distancing as easy as possible, and for most towns this means pedestrianising the main shopping areas.

In Whitchurch, High Street including Green End will be closed to traffic.

Additional disabled parking bays will be allocated in Pepper Street car park and provision for deliveries will be made available at Castle Hill car park.

And in Wem a one-way system will be implemented along High Street, beginning Monday, June 30.

A spokesman for Shropshire council said the decision comes following discussions with various involved parties.

They said: "From this week Shropshire Council is putting in place measures to ensure that people can safely and easily visit and navigate the county’s market towns in line with social distancing regulations and latest government guidance once shops start to re-open.

"The development of these measures follows town centre visits, and discussions with councillors, town and parish councils, Business Improvement Districts, chambers of commerce, and the council’s highways and transport officers.

"The measures are for public safety and to support town centre recovery in line with the government’s easing of lockdown restrictions and in anticipation of people returning to town centres."
