A WEM group that works with local youngsters has received large donation from a regional housebuilder to help plan for the future.

Persimmon Homes West Midlands awarded a donation of £1,000 to Wem Youth Club through its Building Futures scheme, which aims to support community groups working with under-18s across three categories – education and arts, health and sport.

Wem Youth Club, based in Leek Street, supports young people aged from seven to 18 years from the local rural area.

Dr Sue Challis, spokesman for the youth club, said she was grateful for the donation.

“We are very grateful to Persimmon Homes West Midlands for its support as it will help us to re-join Wem’s annual carnival in style after an absence of more than 20 years,” said Dr Challis.

"Funds would buy materials and expert art help to make costumes and the float and we would link it with a project for elderly residents.

"Because of the current pandemic, these plans are a long way off, but it will give our members something positive to aim for when things start to return to normal.”

David Greengrass, head of sales at Persimmon Homes West Midlands, added: “We are delighted to be able to support Wem Youth Club in this way.”
