FAST-food fans living near Chirk were up early to queue for the long-awaited re-opening of their local McDonald’s drive-thru on Wednesday morning.

The restaurant, situated in Chirk Retail Park, re-opened its drive-thru and welcomed queues tailing back almost as far as Halton Roundabout joining the A5 and A483.

Despite lengthy queues, some customers posted on Facebook to say they had been waiting for 45 minutes and praised the speed at which the queue was moving.

Wrexham County Borough councillor for Chirk South, Terry Evans, said he is pleased to see the drive-thru back up-and-running.

“It’s well-supported,” he said. “But even I was shocked to see the queue this morning as big as it was.

“I am happy to see it re-open because it does employ a lot of people.

“They’ve put measures in place to ensure social-distancing and have taken many other safety precautions in relation to the virus.

“It does go to show people were keen to see it re-open – it’s extremely busy today but I’m sure over the course of the next few days it will calm down.”

He has called for customers using the service to refrain from littering, and hopes people can either bin, or take their rubbish home with them.

He added: “We know it’s a very popular McDonald’s, it has been one of the most popular ones in the whole of the UK.

“We were expecting it to be this busy and I’m sure all of the staff at McDonald’s were expecting the same.

“We just hope people will be considerate and make sure they take their litter home and keep the place tidy.

“Either bin it or take it home.”
