A SCARECROW competition will be held next month in Ash, to raise money for the Welsh Mountain Zoo.

The event is being organised by Rebecca Millington and the decision to run a scarecrow competition has been made to ensure social distancing measures are adhered too.

Rebecca says all money will be going to the Welsh Mountain Zoo as they a currently closed because of the coronavirus lockdown and therefore is without funding to feed the animals.

"All the money will be going to Welsh Mountain Zoo," said Rebecca.

"England zoos are eligible for government grants to feed the zoo animals during lockdown but Welsh government have not offered the same support for their zoos.

"Therefore we are raising money for the nearest Welsh zoo which is in Colwyn Bay and has a monthly food bill of £118,000 for their 140 species."

Various prizes are also up for grabs, including a skydive, a pass to the mountain zoo and a family ticket to Hoo Farm near Telford.

Entry costs £5 for an entry and £1 for a voting slip, and non-residents can also enter.

Judging will take place between June 6 and June 14.
