THERE will be no Ellesmere Carnival in 2020 following decision to cancel because of health and safety fears.

The carnival was due to take place on Saturday, August 22, but fears over COVID-19 have made running the event unfeasible.

Event organisers say the decision has come with a heavy heart, but thet they are looking forward to planning next year's event.

A spokesman for the carnival said: "With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic in the interests of safety Ellesmere Carnival Committee have decided with a heavy heart to cancel this year's Ellesmere Carnival.

"The decision follows government advice and our main concern is the health, safety and well-being of participants, traders and the public.

"We know that this will be a big disappointment for everyone and would have been something to look forward to however we feel this is the most responsible approach.

"As soon as it is possible we will re-start our funding events and look to plan for next year’s carnival on Saturday, August 21, 2021."
