A WOMAN from Chorley, near Cholmondeley is helping to support the NHS by running 300km over 30 days.

Isabel Cundy is running 10k every day in April, and is aiming to raise £3,000 for NHS Charities Together.

The national campaign, endorsed by NHS England, acknowledges and supports all NHS staff and volunteers who are looking after those affected by coronavirus.

So far Isabel has raised £2,800 through her Just Giving page, and with only a few days left of her challenge, she is looking to reach her goal.

Although Isabel regularly competes in various running events, completing 30 10ks in a row was a daunting challenge.

"I've ran 260km so far, and I've got 40 left to go, so it’s the final push," said Isabel.

"I do keep fit, I've done 10k before. But doing one every day is something more, so when I set the challenge my husband was like 'what are you doing?'"

For Isabel, the decision to undertake the fundraiser had a personal connection, as her brother-in-law caught COVID-19.

"My brother-in-law was down in a hospital in Kettering and at the time had corona," added Isabel. "But he's thankfully recovered now.

"He was battling in hospital for about three weeks. At that time the NHS needed all the help they could get."

Isabel says she has 'more-or-less' reached her goal, and with the online fundraiser sitting just under £3,000 and physical donations taking her over her goal.

Despite nearing her goal, it has not been easy for the 44-year-old.

She added: "Last week I had a bit of a wobble, my legs were beginning to hurt so I thought perhaps the challenge was a bit more than I expected but I'm back on it now.

"I thought I can run, but it was pushing myself to do 10k. I've done 10k or half-marathons in the past, but knew it would take a lot to do one every day.

"It was a fit of madness I think. I’ve done the local 10ks before, but this year it’s come to a bit of standstill.

"I just thought, you feel so helpless at the moment, people are making equipment for the NHS and things like that so I had to do something."
