Representatives of a group in Ellesmere that is seeking to clear back overgrown areas in woods and pathways around the town have appealed for help during the COVID-19 lockdown.

Roger Ward, from Ellesmere Parish Path Partnership (P3) volunteer group, posted to the town’s community news page about footpaths in Ellesmere.

He warned residents about stiles and paths that may need repairing, and asked them to keep him informed so the P3 group can do necessary work.

“There are two footpaths going into Spout Wood off Sandy Hill Lane,” he said.

“One near to Tall Trees and one nearer to the Penley Road. The second one is unsafe. The footpath was blocked by a barbed wire fence and the sleeper bridge crossing into the wood is unsafe.

“The P3 group has permission to do alterations, however, I made the decision that, as there was an alternative footpath a few hundred yards away, there were more urgent jobs to be carried out. To this end I allowed the stile off Sandy Hill Lane to become temporarily overgrown.

“Somebody has cleared the stile, so I am asking you, please, to avoid injury, to use the footpath near to Tall Trees until we can get out again to carry out the necessary repairs. If you have concerns over a particular footpath then please get in touch, giving as precise a location and description as possible. Thank you.”
