WHITCHURCH Cricket Club have launched an online fundraiser to help support the club during the coronavirus-enforced shutdown.

Although there is no cricket currently being played at the club, there are still various costs involved to keep the club afloat.

Club chairman Iain Marsh says although various cost saving measures have been introduced, the fundraiser is still required to plug the hole in the club's usual income.

“Although the entire world is currently fighting a medical crisis, we all have to believe that at some time in the not too distant future we will emerge from this horrendous situation and life will get back to some kind of normality," said Iain.

"The Whitchurch Cricket Club management committee has a duty to ensure that as best as possible, the club maintains financial stability during this crisis and puts in place the measures that we feel will be of some benefit to the club.

"Income at the moment is zero whilst we still have expenses involved in the maintenance of the clubhouse and ground preparation for when the COVID-19 situation is resolved and the game of cricket resumes.

"For this reason we have registered with Easyfundraising – this site enables fundraising for the club with every day online shopping.

"We are very grateful for the support that we receive from our players, members, sponsors and vice-presidents."

Iain also extended his thanks to key workers on behalf of the club.

"We would like to extend our gratitude and sincere thanks to all of the key workers who are putting their lives at risk by trying to keep society going during this awful time," he added.

"Many thanks to them on behalf of Whitchurch Cricket Club.

"To our members, we wish that you stay safe, stay at home and take care. We will keep you informed as and when we find out more information."
