WEM market has announced it will close its doors until further notice thanks to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The indoor and outdoor market, based out of the town hall had stayed open, despite the town hall itself closing for all other events.

But despite implementing social distancing measures, organisers of the market now say they they have made the "difficult decision" to close completely.

A spokesman for the market said: "Thank you to everyone who visited the market last week to buy their fresh produce whilst following government guidance on social distancing.

"We have been monitoring the events daily and been in communication with various related parties and unfortunately we have come to the difficult decision to completely close the market until we are allowed to resume normal daily life.

"We apologise to those in our community we know rely on this provision, this decision has not been made lightly.

"We look forward to reopening the market at the first opportunity we have and hope you all follow the government guidelines, continue to socially isolate and most importantly, stay well and in good spirits."
