WHITCHURCH Town Council has agreed to postpone a key town event until 'conditions improve'.
At a shortened town council meeting, held at Whitchurch Civic Centre on Thursday, March 19, councillors discussed the potential of cancelling the Food and Drink Show and Party in the Park.
Earlier in the week the organisers of the food and drink festival took the decision to cancel the event themselves, but Party in the Park, typically held in June, had the potential to still go ahead.
As the Food and Drink Festival typically is organised at the start of the previous year, it was agreed to cancel this years event.
But there was some discussion over whether to fully cancel Party in the Park, or just postpone, with Councillor Andy Hall one of those to suggest a cancellation of both events.
"I know that everyone will love to see these events go ahead," said Cllr Hall. "For clarity of everyone in the town, we should say the events are off and look forward to next year."
But Cllr Christian Gregory-Peake said that as the Party in the Park is a highlight of the Whitchurch calendar, the council should consider postponing, an assertion Cllrs Simon Hamlyn and Bev Duffy agreed with.
"The Food and Drink Festival is already cancelled, but we could say the Party in the Park is postponed until conditions improve," proposed Cllr Duffy, to which attending councillors agreed.
