TWO year groups at Thomas Adams in Wem have been instructed to work from home.

A letter has been sent out to all parents, instructing children from Year 8 and 9 to stay home and conduct set tasks from there.

The move has been made because of reduced staff numbers and headteacher Mark Cooper said the measure will stay in place until further notice.

"During these unprecedented times, our priority remains the health and wellbeing of every student and staff member," said Mr Cooper. "As well as being able to provide continued education.

"Due to reduced numbers of staff, we have made the difficult decision that Year 8 and Year 9 pupils should not attend school from Thursday, March 19 until further notice.

"We are not advising pupils in Year 8 and 9 to self-isolate, unless they have shown coronavirus symptoms, but students need to be at home completing set work during normal school hours.

"Therefore, school will remain open for Years 7, 10, 11, 12 and 13.

"As you may know, many other schools in the area have had to take similar decisions.

"I understand that this step may cause you inconvenience for which I can only apologise.

"The decision has been taken reluctantly and with no clear alternative course of action at this time, given the current situation with coronavirus.

"As soon as the situation allows us to open to all year groups again, I will be in touch via the school website, social media and text.

"I wish you all the best during these times of uncertainty.
