Oswestry Town Council is set to hold an emergency meeting on Monday night to discuss and/or confirm plans for the coronavirus.

The meeting is open to the public, but the council is urging anyone who may have attended to put their questions through a councillor from their ward to avoid attendance.

The main discussion on the agenda for Monday's meeting is whether to given to give the town clerk, Arren Roberts, more powers of delegation during the situation brought about by the outbreak of the virus.

Mr Roberts, at previous committee meetings held recently, was given greater delegation over decisions concerning the pandemic, as well as raising the limits to which he can spend without councillors' voting at council.

But now they will vote to extend his delegation powers to ensure the council maintains its responsibilities to residents during the 'period of restricted activity'.

Members will also be asked to bring forward a vote on market fees to Monday and agree a policy for planning matters during the pandemic.

Meanwhile, they will also be discussing ideas to ensure the three main priorities of the council currently: employee welfare, service delivery and community support.

Oswestry mayor Councillor John Price beleives the council has acted quickly.

He said: β€œThe council is quickly reacting to government advice and is constantly reviewing its contingency plans and policies.

"Recognising we have a role to support our communities my colleagues have put forward an initial proposal to lead the co-ordination of activity that supports those who have to self-isolate – this could be a central point of contact for referrals.

"We have met with and will continue to meet with local organisations to put in place measures that support our community.

"It is important that people follow government advice regarding social contact, its in all of our interests to do so.

"Please be considerate of others and keep in touch with friends, neighbours and family regularly over the phone.”

The meeting starts at 7pm.
