West Mercia Police is reminding people to take care when driving on rural highways after receiving several reports of livestock loose on country roads.

In the first week of March, West Mercia Police received a number of reports of loose livestock. Around 20 sheep were found loose on the B5063 Wem to Wolverlerly road near the Aston junction at 3pm on Monday, March 9.

Elsewhere a herd of cows was reported loose at 2am on Wednesday, March 4 on the A41 between Higher Heath and Whitchurch, near Prees, and later on Aldersey Lane, Prees. Five horses were also found running along the Whitchurch to Wem road at Coton at 10am on March 4.

West Mercia Police said: “Be vigilant when driving along our local highways.

"As well as flood damage, potholes and fallen trees and branches, you never know what hazards might await around the next blind bend.”
