Residents in Ellesmere will be able to take part in a ‘Big Spring Clean’ in the town – and could get an Easter Egg in return for their work.

Town clerk Jo Butterworth told councillors at the monthly full town council meeting, held on Monday at the Town Hall, that the plans for the ‘Big Spring Clean’ were recently discussed at the council’s Climate Change Working Group.

One idea was to take part in the national event, and Ms Butterworth told members she had already held informal talks with groups in the town about what level of support they could receive.

She said: “Tesco and the Co-op would look to donate Easter Eggs for all volunteers, and we would like to seek help from the fire service too, about whether they could clean some signs.

“We’re also looking into whether parts of the town can be closed off for litter picking. We would have to register with Keep Britain Tidy to receive the information pack.

“It’s over three weekends, so April 4 is the best option.”

Councillors also agreed for more information over costs of installing a five-berth bike rack at the Town Hall in order to encourage people to ‘ditch the car’ and ride into town.

Also discussed on the agenda was Save the Children’s agreement for their logo to be used on Ellesmere Town Council stationery, which all councillors agreed to.
