Wem Town 2

Bilston Town 5

WEM Town's recent good form evaporated on Saturday, as they were soundly beaten 5-2 by visitors Bilston Town.

The home side had been in relatively good form as of late, winning and drawing their last two games.

But typical service resumed for the relegation battlers, as they conceded five goals on the way to their 19th defeat in the league.

The league's worst defence was no match for the firepower of Dimitri Dunkley, Jamal Fuller, Matty Barnett and Kevin Nickle, who all found themselves on the scoresheet for Bilston, with Dunkley scoring a brace.

Two goals from Harry Ioannou were the only consolation for Wem, with the poor result compounded by fellow relegation rivals Cradley Town picking up a point in their draw with Pershore Town.

Bilston started the scoring 16 minutes in, with Fuller applying the final touch, before Nickle doubled their lead a few minutes later.

Ten minutes before half time Wem clawed a goal back thanks to Ioannou to give the home side some hope.

In the second-half Bilston once again regained their two goal advantage, before Ioannou scored his and Wem's second goal of the game from the penalty spot.

But any dreams of a fairytale comeback were short-lived, after the visitors scored two goals late on to bring the score to 5-2.

Wem remain in 16th place as a result, seven points behind Shawbury United, who have five games in hand.

Next up for Wem is Wolverhampton Sporting Community, who currently sit 13th on 28 points.

That game will take place at Hazel Lane in Great Wyrley on Saturday, February 29 at 3pm .
