WHITCHURCH Town Council will examine the possibility of introducing a 40mph limit along a section of Chester Road.
The section of road in question – from the A41 roundabout to the 30mph zone – is currently national speed limit, but concerns have been raised over the road's safety.
The cost to change the speed limit on the section of road would be around £4,000, which could be match-funded through the Shropshire Council Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) fund.
Neighbourhood CIL funding could also be used to purchase or hire a vehicle activated sign (VAS) for the stretch of road.
Signs cost between £2,500 and £4,000, including batteries and delivery. The town council would also have to liaise with Shropshire Council to mount the sign.
Councillor Alan Chesters said he was a fan of the idea, regardless of the cost.
"Whatever the outcome, it's essential," said Cllr Chester. "I think [VAS] is a very effective deterrent.
"I don't think from a cost point of view we can go against it."
Council clerk Nicola Young said she would look into the installation of the signs, and the motion was deferred until the next meeting.
