A MAN from Malpas will take part in a hiking challenge next month to raise money for charity.

Ed Jones, who is the head of fundraising at Malpas FC, is currently fundraising for two causes.

He is raising money for Malpas FC itself, but is also raising money for Alzheimer's society, a cause close to his heart.

To this end he will undertake a sponsored hike in Croatia in April 2020. This follows successful hikes he has already undertaken in China, the Alps, the Sahara Desert, Morocco and Normandy.

This will be his sixth overseas hiking challenge since October 2017. Each challenge has been so different, but each time he raised substantial sums of money for different charities, and has raised more than £18,600 since 2015.

Ed says he wants to find a cure for Alzheimer's after losing his father to the disease.

"Croatia is my sixth overseas hiking challenge since October 2017," said Ed.

"Every challenge has been so different. But with each one, I have been able to raise substantial money for charities close to my heart.

"Alzheimer's is a cruel, cruel disease, I experienced it first hand with my Dad – I desperately want to see a cure found.

"By fundraising I want to help others who need it most and one day to live in a world without dementia."

Ed will also be holding a fundraiser later this month on Saturday, February 29 at The Old Fire Station in Malpas.

The evening will be Spanish themed and will include music, a buffet and chat with the buffet being served from 8pm.

Tickets are available from The Old Fire Station on 01948 860989 or from Ed on 07791 158205.

A percentage of each ticket sold will be donated to Malpas FC.

Tickets are £20 for adults or £12 for children.
