WEM Town Council has urged Shropshire Council to cover any shortfall in funding for the town's youth club.
Shropshire Council recently launched a consultation to overhaul youth funding across the county, including potentially moving direct funding away from local council's youth clubs.
The proposals were agreed to by Shropshire Council this month, but for Wem Town Council the timing has been inopportune.
The town council had already drawn up and agreed upon the budget for the coming year, under the assumption that Shropshire Council would still fund the youth club.
As the proposal has been put through since then, the town council has made an impassioned plea to Shropshire Council to continue their funding for another year.
At Wem's full council meeting on Thursday, January 30, council clerk Penny O'Hagan said that she had been involved in early discussion with Karen Lad from Shropshire Council's Child Services team, although nothing has been set in stone yet.
Speaking after the meeting, Ms O'Hagan said: "Wem Town Council urges Shropshire Council to contribute funding towards the youth club up to the end of the financial year."
