SOULTON Long Barrow, near Wem, will be featured in an architecture exhibition this spring.

The long barrow will form part of the Architecture Foundation's 'Congregation' exhibition, from February 2 to March 7.

Staged in the newly refurbished undercroft of St Mary Magdalene Church in London, the exhibition will address the changing nature of sacred architecture in Britain through the presentation of 23 buildings designed in the past decade, including Soulton Long Barrow.

A spokesman for the Architecture Foundation says the exhibit highlights new ways of looking at religion.

"Congregation presents examples of how faith groups, faced with unsupportable maintenance costs of their existing buildings, have developed new models of survival through the integration of secular spaces," said the spokesman.

"The selected projects capture a visible statement of Britain’s developing multi-culturalism, and explore how attitudes towards questions of tradition, reform, integration and ornamentation are expressed in a new generation of religious buildings."

Soulton Long Barrow meanwhile recently held one of their regular open days to allow members of the public to see the inner workings of the barrow, as well as speak to the barrow guardians about how its purpose and how it operates.
