A PERSON has received medical attention following a house fire in Wem.

At 6.52pm on Thursday, January 23, Shropshire Fire and Rescue received a call of a person trapped at a house fire in The Grove.

Fire crews from Prees, Shrewsbury and Wem were all sent to tackle the fire, which involved a fire in kitchen dining area.

One casualty was rescued from property and oxygen therapy was administered by fire crews.

Fire crews used two sets of breathing apparatus, a hose reel jet and one covering jet.

The casualty was left in care of ambulance service

Crews spent around 20 minutes at the scene to put the fire out.

West Midlands Ambulance Service meanwhile confirmed that a man was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.
A spokesman for the service said: "We were called to reports of a property fire on The Grove in Wem at 6.55pm [Thursday] night. 
"One ambulance and a paramedic officer were sent to the scene. 
"Ambulance crews treated a man for the effects of smoke inhalation before he was taken to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital for further assessment."
