SHROPSHIRE Police has warned residents of the latest scam alert.
They say that they have received reports that phone numbers in Shropshire are being called with a recorded message that HMRC have a warrant for the victim's arrest.
Some fraudsters who call victims on landlines don’t hang up the phone, keeping the line open.
So when another call is made, the user is connected straight back to the fraudster. This is a trick used in the courier scam.
To avoid falling victim call from another phone such as a mobile or wait at least five minutes before using your landline again.
To report a fraud and receive a police crime reference number, call Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040.
