WHITCHURCH Alport under-13 girls side has been backing a national cause, by wearing rainbow laces.

The team wore the multicoloured laces in December, to highlight the FA's Rainbow Laces campaign.

Rainbow Laces is backed by Stonewall, the biggest charity in Europe campaigning for lesbian, gay and bisexual equality, and the Gay Football Supporters' Network, the national membership organisation of LGBT football fans, teams and supporters' groups.

Club chairman, Rob Dutton, says he is proud of team for supporting the national campaign.

"As a club we pride ourselves on helping to raise awareness of important campaigns such as the Stonewall Rainbow Laces campaign," said Rob.

"Stonewall and the FA have done some fantastic work in recent years to help ensure that football is everyone's game, no matter their age, sex, race or sexual orientation.

"I was delighted when Iain Marsh and his U13 girls team approached myself to ask to represent the club in this campaign and I'd like to thank them for putting themselves forward to be involved.

"I'm looking forward to the club now doing even more work with the campaign and having more teams involved in the future."
