RESIDENTS and staff of a care home in Whitchurch have been getting together to enjoy a brew and to raise money for an important cause.

Greenfields Care Home, based in Liverpool Road, held a coffee morning on Friday, January 17 at the Civic Centre in Whitchurch.

The coffee morning was primarily to raise money for the care home's resident's comfort fund, but also as a good way for the residents to get together and enjoy some quality time out in the town.

Lynnette Caughey, who works for the care home, explained the meaning behind the event.

"The morning was to raise funds for the residents comfort fund," she said.

"The comfort fund is there to take the residents out on trips, buy things they need or to fund events.

"We had a raffle, white elephant sale and a tombola. It was a really good event."

Last summer residents of the care home took part in a inter-generational project with a school from near Whitchurch.

The project involved taking children from Park Pre-school in Iscoyd to the care home in Whitchurch for an hour-and-a-half every week, with staff at the care home saying the project made an 'immense' difference to the resident's wellbeing.

And over the last few years various events to improve the well-being of residents have taken place, such as through children from local schools carol singing, or from summer fairs to also raise funds.
