A PROMINENT events organiser in Weston Rhyn says she is hopeful that the village hall will remain open, despite increasing running costs putting its future in doubt.

Angela Bright, who organises various events in the village, is urging people to come to a meeting next week to discuss Weston Rhyn Institute's future.

She says that while recent rumours that the building is closing are untrue, the Institute is a facing an uncertain financial future.

"The village hall isn't closing," said Angela. "But it is in a dodgy financial position.

"At the moment we need a lot of help.

"There are all sorts of rumours floating round, but my personal opinion is that it won't close. I would think a lot of people have been hearing gossip.

"There is nowhere else to meet in the village. There is the church but we often do fundraising and we can't sell tickets at the church.

"[The Institute] is pretty well used, but it could be used a lot more. It's a big hall, it's got high ceilings that take a lot to heat.

"It's not set in stone we can carry on, but we want to carry on. We want as many people there at the meeting as possible."

A public meeting will be held at the West Rhyn Institute on Monday, January 20 at 7.30pm.
