FOOTBALL fans from Whitchurch were given a treat last week, as legend of the sport Dean Ashton came to the town.
Dean played for Crewe Alexandra, Norwich City and West Ham United in career lasting nine years, before being forced to retire aged 26 because of an ankle injury.
The former striker visited a packed Whitchurch Alport Cadstones Clubhouse on Saturday, January 11 to speak about his experiences as a player.
The evening also featured comedian Steve Dodd, providing support for the night.
A spokesman for the club said: "Whitchurch Alport FC would like to thank everyone who packed the Cadstones Clubhouse for a great evening with the brilliant Dean Ashton.
"A genuine football night enjoyed by us all, the King was superb – comedian Steve Dodd an excellent support.
"Some great stories of the career of a professional footballer and Deanos journey.
"A night that isn't possible without our brilliant volunteers and sponsors, well done you again did us proud.
"We look forward to the next Alport event."
