CHORLTON and Cuddington Women's Institute have been celebrating recently, as the organisation reached 100 years old.

On November 17, 1920, the Cheshire Federation of Women's Institutes was founded, and since then the Chorlton and Cuddington branch have been going strong, giving women in and around Malpas a place to meet and catch up once a month.

In December, to mark this anniversary, the group met at the Jubilee Hall in Malpas for a centenary lunch and to look back at the group's history.

The group are also heavily involved in the community, including wearing period early 20th century outfits to highlight the centenary lunch at last summer's Malpas Village Fete.

Jean Sutton, one keen member of the group, says it is a remarkable achievement for any group to last 100 years, especially Chorlton and Cuddington.

“It’s quite an event for the WI to survive 100 years, especially for a small one like Chorlton and Cuddington," said Jean.

“So we had a very pleasant Sunday lunch and because we’ve got such a record going back.

"We like to keep a record of our events, as it's quite something to keep going, 100 years on."
