Shropshire Wildlife Trust is kicking off the new decade with a series of events across Whitchurch and Wem.

Starting tonight (Wednesday), there is a talk being held at Whitchurch Infant School, in Station Road, from 7.30pm until 9pm.

Stuart Edmunds of Shropshire Mammal Group, as well as from Shropshire Wildlife Trust, will be talking about the possibilities for bringing back the iconic beaver.

The talk will cost £3 for members, £4 for non-members and under-18s is £1.

Anyone wishing to attend can contact Malcolm Monie on 01948 663069 or email whitchurch@shropshirewildlifetrust.org

At the same venue next month, there will be another event, with a talk entitled 'Pipistrelles to Horseshoes' which is a brief survey of bat varieties found in Shropshire.

It will be on Wednesday, February 12 from 7.30-9pm – same prices and contact details apply.

Also in February is a river health drop in at the River Roden in Wem.

The meeting point is at the three car parks at the back of Wem Mill apartment blocks, at 10am on Tuesday, February 11 and it will run for two hours.

This training session gives a hands-on run through of how to monitor and look after our local watercourses in our own time and to our own means.

Visitors will conduct water chemistry tests, kick sampling to survey the aquatic wildlife and keep an observant eye out for any other wildlife spots or signs of pollution.
