WEM Town Council’s Action Plan for Climate Change will be fully displayed in its website, it was announced last week.

At the council’s full meeting on Thursday, town clerk, Penny O’Hagan recommended to councillors that a document outlining the short, medium and long-term targets to make the council carbon neutral by 2030, available to all.

The plan, which is colour-coded to highlight different areas of responsibility, sets out what the council intends to do and in what space of time, including how to reduce carbon, the role of renewable energy, use of open spaces and how the plan will be monitored.

However, Mrs O’Hagan also warned of the need to be patient in reaching the 2030 goal.

She said: “The need for the move to be carbon neutral by 2030 needs to be balanced and not all in the first few years.”

Meanwhile, the council has re-iterated its opposition to plans for swales to be installed at the controversial Roden Grove site, saying: “own council considers The construction of the swales will substantially reduce the amount of usable open space on this development and will provide no opportunity for natural play.”
