One OF Ellesmere’s iconic buildings will be having a celebration before Christmas, and the whole town is invited.

The Market Hall, which is in Scotland Street, will turn 140 years old on Christmas Eve and there are plenty of celebrations lined up for the day, including free mince pies and mulled wine.

Lincoln McMullan, on behalf of the traders in the Market Hall, is hoping that the people of Ellesmere will come along and help them celebrate while spending the odd penny or two too.

“To celebrate the day and the event we’re putting on the celebrations,” he said.

“We’re giving the free mince pies and the mulled wine.

“The mayor will be there and there will be dancers too – there will be much gaiety.

“The market opens up at 7am, and we’ll start the mince pies and mulled win about 9am, running until we run out.

“I hope people can come and celebrate with us and while they’re here, they can do a bit of last-minute shopping, picking up gifts or the batteries they usually forget they need for Christmas Day for the toys.”
